BiCRS - Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage

RCA Carbon is an early adopter of the recommendations from the ICEF BiCRS Roadmap.

BiCRS aligns well with our Regenerative Coconut Agroforestry model.

RCA development projects in Indonesia and beyond will demonstrate BiCRS in action.

The ICEF BiCRS Roadmap was prepared to facilitate dialogue at the Seventh Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (October 2020) and published in January 2021.

Developing Regenerative Coconut Agroforestry to support Sustainability Goals

RCA Carbon recognised that smallholder coconut agroforestry systems are often regenerative in practice, contain traditional knowledge, and have high potential for carbon sequestration.

Our RCA mission is the continuous improvement of a new regenerative agroforestry standard.

Developing afforestation and reforestation projects with smallholders directly and within nucleus estate models, will achieve scalable economic impact in the Global South and a valuable contribution to climate change goals.

Biochar and Healthy Soils

The current degradation of biodiversity and soil fertility has led to increasing calls to “reverse the direction of travel” of global agriculture from degenerative to regenerative approaches.

Sustainable farming is dependent on soil organic carbon (SOC), which maintains soil health and affects productivity. To increase agricultural productivity innovative systems are needed.

RCA biomass and biochar modules work to optimise soil potential.

Climate-Smart Coconut Agriculture Could Be The Caribbean’s Tree Of Life
By Daphne Ewing-Chow

With a plethora of potential uses, from coconut oil to coconut water and a variety of nutritional benefits, the global demand for coconuts has recently surged by over 700%, resulting in a renewed interest reviving the Caribbean’s coconut industry.

Most revitalization programmes have focused on socio-economic benefits, while the industry’s role in climate change adaptation and mitigation has been sorely neglected. Globally, scientists have estimated that approximately 3 million tonnes of Carbon need to be removed from the atmosphere with 25% to 35% originating from unsustainable practices within the agriculture industry.
